Atmospheric corrosion due to amine emissions from carbon capture plants

چکیده
The atmospheric corrosion due to pure amines emitted from carbon capture plants was investigated. Amine exposure found initially inhibit the of steel, by its film formation and alkalinity, but reduce product layers lead freezing point depression, which could in turn increase corrosion. Very high amine doses were observed dissolve metal without establishing a layer. These effects seem much more pronounced on copper than steel. Climate air quality variations affect steel expected maximum deposition plant emissions.

Controlling Corrosion in Amine Treating Plants
The causes and the prevention of carbon steel corrosion in amine systems are reviewed. The corrosive agents are acid gases, oxygen, heat stable salts, amine degradation products, and, in refineries, gas contaminants such as ammonia and hydrogen cyanide. Corrosion mechanisms are provided for carbon steel exposed to amine solutions and for amine regenerator overhead systems containing aqueous con...
متن کاملCarbon Capture Using Amine-modified Carbon Nanotubes
The increasing rise in the rate of both anthropogenic CO2 emissions and atmospheric CO2 concentration, combined with an evolving understanding of what this means for global climate change both now, and in the future, has increased the need for novel technologies for CO2 capture from large point sources. Current industry standards involve the use of amine solvents, which have a large parasitic l...
متن کاملAtmospheric benzenoid emissions from plants rival those from fossil fuels
Despite the known biochemical production of a range of aromatic compounds by plants and the presence of benzenoids in floral scents, the emissions of only a few benzenoid compounds have been reported from the biosphere to the atmosphere. Here, using evidence from measurements at aircraft, ecosystem, tree, branch and leaf scales, with complementary isotopic labeling experiments, we show that veg...
متن کاملDecrease of emissions required to stabilize atmospheric CO2 due to positive carbon cycle–climate feedbacks
[1] Positive feedbacks between the carbon cycle and climate have the potential to accelerate the accumulation of atmospheric CO2 over the next century. Here, I address the question of how climate-induced carbon cycle changes could affect the emissions required to stabilize atmospheric CO2 at 1000 ppmv. From a coupled climate-carbon cycle simulation, I calculated emissions that are consistent wi...

[1] We investigate whether a recently proposed large source of CH4 from vegetation can be reconciled with atmospheric measurements. Atmospheric transport model simulations with and without vegetation emissions are compared with background CH4, d C-CH4 and satellite measurements. For present–day CH4 we derive an upper limit to the newly discovered source of 125 Tg CH4 yr . Analysis of preindustr...
